There is very little more to say about the pandemic – still no routine sight test…

As of this date, there is still no sign of an end to the lockdown for optometrists. Optical practices and practitioners are instructed to remain closed, or only open for essential sight tests, for emergency eye tests (under MECS or CUES) or for essential repairs and supplies to “keep patients going”. All open practices must have PPE for practitioners and for staff. The AOP web site has more details about that.

There is a CUES service to be introduced soon. CUES stands for Covid Urgent Eye Service and will run similarly to MECS but will be specifically for patients who are suffering from or at showing symptoms of the COVID-19 virus. This service is available for all practitioners to join but you must have appropriate PPE to carry out these appointments.
